Greater San Diego lightly shaken by 4.3 quake near Los Angeles

Much of San Diego County was lightly and briefly shaken at 7:58 p.m. Friday by a magnitude 4.3 earthquake that occurred in Carson, 13 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, according to the US Geological Survey.

The temblor began 7.4 miles beneath the earth’s surface, which is typical for quakes in Southern California.

The USGS said the quake’s energy was felt in Oceanside, Carlsbad, Cardiff by the Sea, San Diego, Lakeside, Chula Vista, National City, Ramona, Carmel Valley, Rancho Santa Fe, Fallbrook, Mira Mesa, Vista, San Marcos, Encinitas, Santee, El Cajon, and Coronado.
