Rancho Buena Vista at Mt. Carmel


When: 7 p.m., Friday

Preview: Before the season, no one would have thought these teams would be a combined 8-1. RBV has outscored its opponents 126-33, with the loss coming to El Capitan (28-12). Gino Trapasso leads the county in rushing with 927 yards on 100 carries with 12 TDs. The last time the Longhorns started a season 4-1 was 2013. Mt. Carmel (4-0) has outscored its opponents 126-38. QB Cayden Gent has thrown for 725 yards and rushed for 147. RB Keyante Smith has rushed for 169 yards and Hunter Ledesma is averaging 11.9 yards on 13 carries. WR Luke Sevier has 22 catches for 238 yards. The last time the Sundevils started a season 4-0 was 2016.

Prediction: Mt. Carmel 28, Rancho Buena Vista 27

Chula Vista at San Ysidro

When: 6:30 p.m., Friday

Preview: Control of the Metro South Bay League is at stake. Chula Vista (1-2, 1-0) opened league play with a 30-20 win over Mar Vista. San Ysidro (3-1, 1-0) beat Castle Park 49-6 to start league. San Ysidro averages 10.6 yards on 91 rushes behind QB Ja’Marcus Jiles and RBs Mckai Jackson and Matthew Jaime. San Ysidro opened in 2004 and the Cougars have never been 4-1 at the season’s midway point.

Prediction: San Ysidro 35, Chula Vista 20

Otay Ranch at No. 3 Lincoln

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Preview: Otay Ranch (1-2) has lost 2 in a row since beating Madison. QB Brian Rudden has thrown for 657 yards, but the team has just 205 rushing yards on 54 attempts. Lincoln (3-1) has rebounded from a loss to Los Alamitos with wins over Mission Hills and Steele Canyon. QB Jalen Daniels has thrown for 1,020 yards, RB Rodrick Robinson has 406 yards and WRs Marcus Moore and Nathen Acevido are averaging more than 20 yards per catch.

Prediction: Lincoln 31, Otay Ranch 18

Kearny at San Diego

When: 6:30 p.m., Friday

Preview: Kearny (0-4) has been outscored 181-21. San Diego (4-1) has outscored its last two opponents 102-12 after a loss to Scripps Ranch. The Cavers have thrown just 21 passes and have six RBs with more than 100 yards, led by QB Jaden Green.

Prediction: San Diego 38, Kearny 13

Bonita Vista vs. Classical Academy

When: 7 p.m., Friday, at Valley Center HS

Preview: Both teams are challenged offensively. Bonita Vista (1-2) has scored 54 points — 41 in its win. Classical Academy (0-4) has scored 35, but had 28 in a loss to Bishop’s last week.

Prediction: Bonita Vista 35, Classical Academy 14

Morse at Madison

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Preview: Morse (3-1) beat Hilltop last week after a loss to Palo Verde Valley. In 2 games statistically, RB Josephate Jordan has 280 yards while Damarion Wright has 286. Madison has outscored 3 opponents 84-47 since an opening-week loss to Otay Ranch. QB Reggie Johnson has thrown for 536 yards while RB Tyson Bryant has 387 yards and James Tivao has 200 on 22 carries. WR Jake Jackson has 10 catches for 258 yards.

Prediction: Madison 35, Morse 21

Grossmont at Mira Mesa

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Preview: This is the first home game for Mira Mesa since the passing of coach Chris Thompson. Grossmont (2-3) has lost three in a row since beating Sweetwater and El Camino. QB Trenton Giles has 970 yards total offense, 870 passing. The Foothillers have 4 WRs with at least 12 catches. Mira Mesa (1-2) went on the road last week, losing to Los Angeles Loyola. QB Alex Zappia has thrown for 615 yards and WR Tajon Evans has 12 catches for 269 yards and 5 TDs. RB Makei Thompson rushed 18 times for 117 yards against Loyola.

Prediction: Mira Mesa 31, Grossmont 24

Olympian at Oceanside

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Preview: Olympian (1-3) has been outscored 104-33. QB Kristian Noriega has 510 yards passing, but the team is averaging just 1.9 yards on 48 rushes. Oceanside (2-2) attacks behind QB Max Mullen and RB Dayne Morrison.

Prediction: Oceanside 34, Olympian 21

St. Augustine at No. 4 Mater Dei Catholic

When: Friday, 6:30 p.m.

Preview: St. Augustine (1-4) has played one of the county’s toughest schedules. The offense is led by RB Isaiah Pressley, who has 523 yards on 81 carries. On defense, Justin Steans has 58 tackles, Gracen Halton 37 and three sacks and Jake Bolin 49 tackles. Mater Dei Catholic (3-0) has scored 162 points behind QB Dominic and Nankil and RBs Nico Mosley and Anthony McMillian. The team is averaging 11.4 yards on 66 rushes.

Prediction: St. Augustine 21, Mater Dei Catholic 17

No. 10 Eastlake at El Camino

When: Friday, 7:15 p.m.

Preview: Eastlake (3-1) has beaten La Habra and Granite Hills since a loss to Poway. The Titans have allowed just 41 points. El Camino (1-2) won its opener, beating St. Augustine, but has lost to Grossmont and Carlsbad since.

Prediction: El Camino 21, Eastlake 20
