After a year’s hiatus, and a delayed 2021 opening, minor league baseball is finally back.
There are no less than 52 San Diego-area players in the minors this season.
Here is a closer look, going from Triple-A to low A:
Triple-A
• Left-hander Daniel Camarena (Cathedral Catholic) and infielder Gosuke Katoh (Rancho Bernardo) are with El Paso in the Padres system. Camarena is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA after three appearances. Katoh is hitting .290 with seven RBIs and 11 runs after nine games.
• Outfielder Wynton Bernard (Rancho Bernardo/Niagara) is hitting .333 after nine games with Albuquerque in the Rockies chain. Left-hander Ian Clarkin (Madison) has made two starts. First baseman Connor Joe (Poway/USD) was called to Colorado before he made an appearance in Albuquerque.
• Catcher Riley Adams (Del Norte/USD) was called Slot Online to the big leagues by the Blue Jays, but was sent back before he got into a game. He has a pair of homers in seven games with Buffalo. Right-hander James Dykstra (Rancho Bernardo/Cal State San Marcos) started the season at Double-A New Hampshire and is now with Buffalo.
• Catcher Seby Zavala (San Diego State) is hitting .300 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 10 games with Charlotte in the White Sox system.
• Right-hander Kyle Dowdy (Francis Parker), who played in 13 big-league games with the Rangers, is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in five appearances with Columbus in the Cleveland chain. Outfielder Bradley Zimmer (La Jolla/USF), who has big-league experience, has a pair of homers and five RBIs in 10 games.
• Right-hander Beau Susler (Ramona/Dartmouth) is 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA in two starts at Indianapolis in the Pirates system.
• Right-hander Cody Poteet (Christian) was called up to the Marlins after winning his first start at Jacksonville. Right-hander Parker Bugg (Rancho Bernardo/LSU) has a 1.50 ERA after four appearances with Jacksonville.
• Right-hander Bubba Derby (San Diego State) is 1-0 after five relief appearances with Nashville in the Brewers system.
• Catcher Austin Wynns (Poway/Fresno State) has played 42 major league games with the Orioles and is now hitting .320 at Norfolk. Tyler Nevin (Poway), a first-round pick of the Rockies, has four homers in 12 games at Norfolk. Veteran right-hander Thomas Eshelman (Carlsbad/Cal State Fullerton) is also at Norfolk.
• Right-hander Jake Newberry (Mira Mesa) has made 4 appearances with Omaha in the Royals system.
• Right-hander James Pazos (USD), who mas MLB experience with the Mariners and Rockies, is at Oklahoma City in the Dodgers chain.
• Veteran right-hander Nick Vincent (Ramona/Palomar College/Long Beach State) has a 2.08 ERA in four appearances with Round Rock in the Rangers system.
• Right-hander James Hoyt (Palomar College) has been up and down with the Angels and is at Salt Lake. Right-hander Jake Reed (Helix) has a save in four appearances with Salt Lake.
• Outfielder Mickey Moniak (La Costa Canyon) has been up and down with the Phillies. He’s currently with Lehigh Valley.
• Shortstop Kyle Holder (University City/Grossmont College/USD) is with Scranton/Wilkes Barre in the Yankees organization. Veteran outfielder Greg Allen (Hilltop/San Diego State) is now with Scranton. Outfielder Zack Zahner (Torrey Pines/Cal Poly-SLO) earned a promotion after hitting .375 at Somerset.
• Catcher Garrett Stubbs (Torrey Pines/USC) has been up and down with the Astros and is now at Sugarland, hitting .368.
• Right-hander Paul Sewald (USD), who has 125 MLB appearances, is now with Tacoma in the Mariners chain.
• Left-hander Stephen Gonsalves (Cathedral Catholic), who appeared in 7 games https://sattamatka.city/ for the Twins, is now at Worchester in the Red Sox system and is 1-0 after 3 starts.
Double-A
• Outfielder Trenton Brooks (Granite Hills/Nevada) has a pair of homers and seven RBIs in nine games with Akron in the Indians system.
• Outfielder Calvin Mitchell (Rancho Bernardo) has played in 10 games for Altoona in the Pirates organization.
• Catcher CJ Stubbs (Torrey Pines/USC) is playing for the Astros at Corpus Christi.
• Infielder Sean Bouchard (Cathedral Catholic/UCLA) is hitting .286 after 12 games with Hartford in the Rockies system.
• Shortstop Nick Allen (Francis Parker) is hitting .364 with eight RBIs after 12 games at Midland in the A’s chain.
• First baseman Dillon Paulson (Santa Fe Christian) is hitting .273 with six RBIs after six games with Montgomery in the Rays organization.
High A
• Outfielder Kyle Stowers (Christian/Stanford) has a homer and eight RBIs in eight games at Aberdeen in the Orioles system.
• Catcher Korey Lee (Vista/Cal) is hitting .238 after 10 games Slot Online Teresmi at Ashville in the Astros chain.
• Right-hander Michael Mercado (Westview) has made two starts at Bowling Green in the Rays system. Outfielder Jordan Qsar (Valhalla/Pepperdine) is hitting .278 with a pair of homers and eight RBIs in 10 games.
• Right-hander Dylan Spacke (Ramona/Long Beach State) is 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA in three games at Greenville in the Red Sox system.
• Right-hander Blake Workman (Ramona/Cal State Fullerton) hasn’t given up a run in 3 games with Hillsboro in the Diamondbacks organization.
• Left-hander Ken Waldichuk (University City/Saint Mary’s) has 19 strikeouts in 10 innings at Hudson Valley in the Yankees system.
