City opens free online job prep program

Carlsbad is launching the Carlsbad Job-Readiness Room, a free program that helps job seekers build skills and bolster their chances of landing a new job in Carlsbad. Entry-level workers are invited to take 15 hours of skills training online, at a self-guided pace. After 15 hours of online training, the city will help workers secure an interview with a Carlsbad company in hospitality and food, office administration or manufacturing. This program is designed for residents who have been out of the workforce, have struggled to find work or are experiencing other employment barriers. Sign up at bit.ly/3C0qxqz.

State of the City address set for Friday

Mayor Matt Hall gives his final State of the Community address from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Westin Carlsbad Resort and Spa. More than 500 business, civic and community leaders will come together to discuss the state of the Carlsbad community and share ideas to plan for a successful future. They include Kim Sodoriak, president and CEO of Visit Carlsbad; Kurt Stocks, president of Legoland; and Tim Stripe, co-president and co-owner of Grand Pacific Resorts. National online career fair taking place Tuesday

RecruitMilitary and DAV will help veterans and their families find jobs by connecting them with employers seeking their military trained skills. The National Virtual Career Fair will be held online from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. More than 100 national employers will be in attendance. Brewery hosts pet portrait event

Second Chance Beer Company hosts its monthly “Paint Your Pet” event with LoveJoy Creations! for animal owners to paint a portrait of their favorite family pet. The art class is from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 21 at the brewery’s Carmel Mountain location, 15378 Avenue of Science, Suite 222. The cost is $65, with 15 percent going directly to the nonprofit Second Chance Animal Rescue. Dunkin’ rewards Red Cross donors

Dunkin’ of San Diego is teaming with the American Red Cross to provide 4,000 vouchers to blood donors during August.
