State of the City address Aug. 19

Mayor Matt Hall gives his final State of the Community address from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Westin Carlsbad Resort and Spa. More than 500 business, civic and community leaders will come together to discuss the state of the Carlsbad community and share ideas to plan for a successful future. New chamber member announced

Sean Flannery, co-owner of Max Lux Media, has joined the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce board of directors. Since 2021, Max Lux Media has provided video production and photography for small to medium-sized area businesses. Company offerings include videos for recruiting staff, launching products and improving internal communications, and Max Lux also works with local nonprofits to make their fundraising more effective. ‘Magic and Cosmic Principles’ featured at event

The San Diego North Economic Development Council holds its inaugural North County Spotlight Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 21 at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. This is planned as an annual opportunity to hear from one of the region’s leading entrepreneurs about their business journey. The event will feature Michael Bronner, president of Dr. Bronner’s, speaking on “How Magic and Cosmic Principles are Transforming Business Practices.” Tables and tickets are now available. Military summit open for exhibitors

The 2022 San Diego Military Summit brings together the military and business communities for a day of workshops, speakers, exhibitors and networking. SCORE offering training workshops

SCORE San Diego volunteers are experienced entrepreneurs, corporate managers and executives with a diverse set of industries and specialties, offered in small-business training workshops. For $25, clients receive a two- to three-hour workshop, in person at SCORE San Diego, 8825 Aero Drive, Suite 102, San Diego, or on Zoom; a PDF of the presentation; and a link to the final workshop video. Bootcamp for entrepreneurs offered

An Entrepreneurship and Adversity Community Bootcamp will be offered on six Saturdays in September and October for those in difficult circumstances who are trying to grow or start a business. The camp will be from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 10 to Oct. 15 at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 6845 University Ave., San Diego. Presented by the San Diego State University Lavin Entrepreneurship Center and the Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurial Studies. The program is part of the Urban Poverty and Business Initiative, a collaboration among universities and nonprofits to help those in underserved communities start and grow successful businesses. Ice cream shop opens in North City

Wynston’s Ice Cream has opened its official flagship storefront in the North City neighborhood near Cal State San Marcos. Chris and Sarah Wynn started their ice cream shop with an incubator opportunity in the Union Cowork office in North City. Now they have a full-size ice cream churning facility at 250 N. City Drive, Suite 7. Among their frozen treats is their “For the Wynn Chocolate” ice cream, which won the North American Ice Cream Association National Blue Ribbon this year. Other regular flavors include Old Reliable (vanilla), Cookies In Cream, and Blue Moon; the shop also offers seasonal flavors and a dairy-free version. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. daily.
